Coincidence or Divine Intervention?

In the beginning when I started feeling sick, I went to a clinic who after they couldn’t figure out the source of my illness, they send me to be admitted to a hospital for further testing and analysis.  It was in that hospital that I was first diagnosed with pneumonia and then after some treatments I was released.  Due to not feeling better and developing other symptoms such as swelling and a rash on my chest and neck, I went back to the same clinic and once again after they couldn’t figure out my illness had me admitted to the same local hospital for further testing and analysis.  This time however, after all the test and analyses in this hospital, is when I first met the oncologist who would later become my primary oncologist through the course of my cancer treatment and follow-ups.  This doctor is the one who tried to transfer me to one of the most prestigious cancer centers in the country. Unfortunately, when he was made aware that there was a long waiting period for anyone to be admitted he knew that because of my condition my time was running out. Therefore, he worked relentlessly on getting me transferred to another specialty hospital that specialized in lymphomas.  Thankfully, he was ultimately successful in getting me into a hospital that had just had one room in their oncology floor open and I was transferred to this hospital by ambulance.  Here in this specialty hospital, is where my exact cancer type was determined and my course of treatment begun.

On the outside, one can think that all of these steps that occurred are coincidence based upon the clinic I chose to go to, and I may be incline to say perhaps that’s true.  On the other hand, as I reflect back on the course of my cancer journey, I was going to go to a different hospital in my hometown because they had better ratings overall, but due to how I felt I agreed to going to the nearest hospital instead. My oncologist worked in conjunction with the other oncologists from these other out of town hospitals because of my relatively young age, they wanted to try a different more aggressive approach on the administration of my chemo treatments. The risks outweighed the benefits because although the chemo regime proved to be effective, it also led to heart disease in some cancer patients.  They tried to administer the chemo in a way that would eliminate the tumor and hopefully safeguard my heart. Ultimately this decision led to that aggressive chemo treatment over powering my tumor and my type of cancer, which led to me being in remission and  subsequently still being alive today.

Sometimes I wonder what if I had made the decision to go to the other hospital, would I be alive today, I honestly have no idea.  All, I know and feel in my heart is that God aligned everything for me in order for my diagnosis, treatment and survival to be a success.  Every time, that I didn’t know if there would be a way, God showed me a way.  God opened doors that seemed closed. He opened a room for me in that specialty hospital and changed the course of my cancer journey.  Each step of the way, I was thankful to God for all the miracles he showed me along the way that led to my victory over the harsh cancer battle.
