The movie Secondhand Lions is one of my all-time favorites. This drama/comedy is dear to my heart. The reason for all the love towards this movie is because this was the last movie that I thought I was ever going to see in my life. In the hospital, I was transferred to was so old in its cinema technology but extremely up to date in its medical technology that the vintage scene was intriguing. The wonderful nurse who knew that my odds were extremely low decided to bring me my favorite ice-cream flavor available in the hospital cafeteria and put on a movie. She showed me the selection and the only movie that I had not seen was Secondhand Lions. I thought to myself do I want to see something that I have already seen or something new. This might be the last movie that I see in my life. Well, I read the description of the movie and that it said drama/comedy and thought to myself, well if it is bad, at least I will have a laugh. For me, all the news had not been the best, so I decided that laughter was a good choice to feel normal (not sick) for a brief moment in time. I ate my chocolate ice-cream which was flavorless to me because I couldn’t taste, but the nurse had been so wonderful and brought this wonderful treat and movie. The gesture was so much appreciated by me that I will forever be grateful to this amazing person. For almost two hours, I forgot that I was sick in a hospital and lived in that moment, watching this hilarious movie. Sometimes in life things are so overwhelming that something so simple as watching a movie or show on a screen can provides us an escape from all that worries us. For that length of time, we are transported to another place and forget about our sorrows. We always need to have an outlet for when things get to be too much around us. Whether it is watching a movie or show, doing yoga, exercising, meditating, prayer or whatever else we might enjoy doing, always try to have an outlet for when things get to be too much. Remember life is composed of many parts. Some are good and some are bad. Having too much of one thing is never recommended. There always needs to be a balance. When there is too much sorrow you need to have laughter. When there is too much pain you need to have relief. When there is too much work you need to have fun. We need to take a minute and analyze, are we having too much work and not enough fun?
