Before I was diagnosed with cancer, I had heard that was the most devasting news you could receive in your life because it may mean that your life is over. Despite what other people said or what I had seen in the movies, I was not at all prepared to receive a cancer diagnosis. It was something I only saw in the movies, not something that would actually happen to me in real life or so I thought. Well, it did happen to me. My diagnosis felt like such a permanent situation that would result in my death. I was overwhelmed by the uncertainty of my future that it made me feel devasted and hopeless.
As I started my cancer battle, I realized that I didn’t have to be consumed with fear and hopelessness. I could muster up all my strength and face Cancer head on because I was not alone. Physically speaking, we are alone when battling cancer. I was the one who had to endure the treatments, overcome the excruciating, gut wrenching side effects, experience the emotional roller-coaster of turmoil and the uncertainty of the final outcome. Spiritually speaking, I had God by my side, taking care of me every step of the way and having people like my mom be my caregiver during these challenging times in my life. It would have been so easy for me to give up and allow fear and worry to overtake me, but I soon realized that having faith in God puts an end to all your fears and worries. I prayed constantly to God about my, frustrations, and my desire to beat cancer. I knew that God would not be overwhelmed with my constant prayers so I turned to HIM all day every day. I knew, my cancer prognosis looked permanent, but I felt it in my heart that God could change that and provide a new outcome for me. Yes, I felt that my cancer was getting worse by the minute and not improving at all but instead of feeling completely defeated, I decided to turn once again to God and ask HIM for help. During this time, as difficult as it was, I tried to trust and embrace the uncertainty and even when nothing was certain in my cancer battle, anything was possible through God.
Your current battle might be taking longer than anticipated and you may start to feel defeated, but don’t give up instead release those thoughts onto God and know that HE is with you every step of the way. He will give you the strength to keep fighting to live another day.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
