Life Lessons

My personal cancer journey taught me many life lessons and a new appreciation for life. Those life lessons continue to help me every day of my life. When life gets too overwhelming and complicated as it often does, I just remind myself of the life lessons learned and I am able to make it through another difficult day.

  • Life Lesson # 1

At the beginning of my cancer journey, I thought I am young why do I have cancer; this is so unfair. Well unfortunately, life isn’t always fair. I learned that God sometimes, allows you to go through the storm to come out stronger and victorious on the other side.

  • Life Lesson # 2

During my cancer journey, there were many days where I experienced extreme physical pain as the chemo and my tumor were battling inside me. The pain was so excruciating that, I did not know how I would make it through another day. Fortunately thanks to the trust and faith I put in God I learned that days like those were only temporary. Nothing lasts forever. God never gives you more than you can handle.

  • Life Lesson # 3

Even though, before my cancer journey I thought I had numerous friends, I soon realized that they were not really my friends. The only ones that were there for me unconditionally were a few family members. I truly learned to value the importance of family and the unconditional love given during the most difficult times.

  • Life Lesson # 4

The kindness given to me by the medical staff, fellow cancer warriors and strangers during my most difficult times is something that I will cherish for as long as I live. It still brings a smile to my face today as I reminisce of those times. I learned that no matter what kind of bad day you are having, try to always be kind to others, you never know, they might be having a worst day then you, like fighting to live another day. Being kind to others truly goes a long way.

  • Life Lesson # 5

When I was younger, I thought I was invincible and that I had my whole life ahead of me. Well after my cancer diagnosis I suddenly realized that I was not invincible and immortal. I learned that life is a precious gift given by God and that a lifetime is not always as long as you may think therefore, we need to enjoy each day as if it were the last. Each waking day is a blessing.
